Relaxation massage AKA Swedish Massage, is a type of massage that aims to alleviate stress, enhance mood, and promote a sense of calm. It uses light to moderate pressure, gentle movements, and rhythmic tapping techniques. It is not designed to address specific injuries or medical concerns.
Remedial massage can address particular muscular problems, pain, and dysfunction. It utilises deeper pressure and more focused methods, including trigger point therapy, deep tissue techniques, and myofascial release. Remedial massage is frequently incorporated into treatment plans for musculoskeletal issues and may assist in injury recovery. -

No you do not need a referral for a massage appointment.
-
That is dependent on the condition, goals, and demands of the individual. Remember that remedial massage can assist with treating more than physical tension.
Additionally, if you are dealing with a long standing injury or condition, this may take a few treatments to break through before moving into the maintenance phase.
After our first treatment we would assess the rate of improvement and the follow up requirements.
At a minimum, a massage once a month is a great opportunity for self-care.

Communication between the client and therapist is key throughout each and every session and by regularly checking, side effects can be minimised. Possible side effects include:
Muscle soreness: This sensation may be similar to what you might feel after exercising and typically gets better within a few days.
Headaches: These can arise if your head is positioned awkwardly during the massage or from tension being released elsewhere in the body.
Nausea: While not common, this may occur after releasing toxins from the body. Staying hydrated, resting, and steering clear of intense activities can be beneficial.
Fatigue: A massage releases tension and can promote relaxation and help you unwind, which might leave you feeling a bit tired.
Bruising: while not the aim of the treatment, this can happen for various reasons, such as having thin blood, issues with blood vessels, anemia, or fragile skin. Certain medications can also increase the likelihood of bruising.
